On Thursday Feb 1st Ms Gaye McDonald published her book on St. Brigid in St. Laurence's School. Ms Anita Foley completed the illustrations in the wonderful book and many pupils created St. Brigid's Crosses.
We were very lucky to have the News2Day crew out to record this for RTÉ, which can be viewed here. (Starts at 2:45) Any money made from the sale of the book is going to the Jack and Jill Foundation On Friday 26th Jan 5th Class completed the book they were writing as part of the Fighting Words Programme. Have a look at the News2Day report. Link here. Today we had a very special visitor to our classrooms. Sam Maguire was brought around by our GAA Coaches. We would like to thank them very much for this great opportunity to hold Sam and to get some questions answered. Our Junior School enjoyed a play by the Dry Ice Theatre company in December.
The pupils were very lucky to get to see a play called "The Curse" performed by students from Marino Institute recently. It was extremely enjoyable, and all the pupils had a great time at it.
South Dublin County Council along with Fingal County Council and Dublin City Council have organised this 8 week programme targeting 5th & 6th Class students in schools in Fingal and Dublin City.
Students will perform four running sessions each week inching them closer to completing their first marathon as well as learning about the benefits of physical activity. The finale will see the students running their last mile and completing the marathon at Morton Stadium, Santry. Congratulations to our boys basketball team who won their final in the National Basketball Arena, Tallaght.
Our girls team were unlucky to lose out on the day, but we are very proud of them to have made it to the final. A huge thanks to Ms. Ní Riain for all the work put in throughout the year. Congratulations to our girls football team who reached the shield final in Croke Park. Unfortunatley they lost on the day, however they represented the school excently. We are very proud of them all. A lot of work was put in by Ms. O'Callaghan, Ms. McLaughlin and Mark.
Míle Buíochas also to all the parents who drove to matches and for their support throughout the year. In October the two 4th Classes went to a workshop in Baldoyle Library on Robert Burns, the famous Scottish poet and lyricist. The two classes learned a number of his songs and enjoyed the afternoon immensely.
The school is currently involved in a Reading Buddy initiative where each child in the senior school is paired with children in the junior school. The aim of the initiative is that friendships are formed through a communal love of books.
